As readers of the Monday Mission Update know, I pay close attention to the Y member comments we receive from our daily customer satisfaction tracker. Those comments, lots of other data, conversations and regular site visits help me, and all of our leaders gauge how well we're doing in meeting community needs and living up to our promise.
We recently received feedback from Aisha Ndiaye about her experience in Y Head Start in Baltimore County, which reminded us of what happens when the forces of caring and community are brought together with true expertise.
"The Y experience is like no other. I love the hands-on learning and the close-knit family feeling they give you. I know my child is flourishing from attending the Y Head Start. They have the most caring and supportive team. My daughter's educator Ms. Charvette is amazing! The family service advocate Ms. Doris is exceptional! They all go above and beyond to ensure our children are set up for success. I am very appreciative of all of the team!"

This sentence and sequence of words could almost be an equation: a true experience rather than a transaction, leading to a feeling of community, leading to a child flourishing supported by an expert team, assuring the conditions for success. Regardless of the entry point that brings a family into the Y, this is exactly the kind of experience we want every child and family to have everywhere: memorable, connected, warm, supportive and empowering. Thanks to Ms. Ndiaye for taking the time to share her feedback and giving us the privilege of serving her family. Special thanks to Y associates Charvette Simmons and Doris Minor for their excellent work and the whole Y Head Start team for exemplifying and delivering exactly the kind of Y experience our community’s families need and deserve.
